Thanksgiving

So obviously I couldn't afford to spend $300 to go home for 4 days this Thanksgiving. Luckily we have some extended family (my mother's cousins) who live in New Jersey that were kind enough to invite me to their house for Thanksgiving!

So after I got off work on Wednesday I took the 4 trains necessary to end up in Rutherford, New Jersey. By the way, it was a snap, considering I had never even taken the New Jersey Transit before!

Thanksgiving was great! There were about 16 people there, plus tons of wonderful food! Everyone kept saying I was going to tell everyone back home how crazy they all were, to which I insisted "they are exactly the same back home!"

Around 11:00 Thanksgiving morning, as we were putting the turkey into the oven, a real live turkey was barking at us out on the deck! It was hilarious!!!!!!! They quickly scampered away, but still, how fitting!

The best part of the trip, however, was getting some quality baby time with their 8 month old son, Andrew!

Seriously. I took 49 pictures in 3 days. Guess how many are of food, decorations, or adults.

0.

That's right, because he is just TOO CUTE!!!!!

Look at the little Thanksgiving bib!!!!

He is such a happy baby!

Italian Food and Comedy!

Last Sunday, to celebrate Nicole's 18th Birthday, we went into the city for a night of great italian food and comedy!

It was a pretty self-explanatory night, so I shall let the story be told in pictures.

Nicole and I on the train into the city.

We have different phones from different carriers, but our cases are the same type. We tease that they are married, and that Nicole's is the woman because it has curves.

We met Alicia and her boyfriend Henry in Chinatown and then walked to little Italy, where we found this restaurant. It was located at the back of a cigar shop, but it had amazing food! Nicole is Italian, so she would know!

Then we went right across the street to Ferrara's for Italian desserts. Henry and Alicia shared sherbet because Alicia is allergic to dairy, and Nicole and I each had some gelato.

Outside of Ferrara's.

Then we left Alicia and Henry and made our way to the East Village for the comedy show! We had about 40 minutes to spare so we found an adorable coffee shop nearby and we each had a cup of coffee while we waited. I wish I had a picture to show you, it was very chic! Then we headed to the East Ville Comedy Club! We actually got in for free because Nicole found an online promotion. There was a two drink limit, however, which ended up totaling $13 each for Nicole and me. We didn't complain though! The show on its own would have cost us $25. I guess they supposed people will come for a free show, and then spend a lot of money on alcoholic drinks. They lost money on us of course. Even if we had wanted to drink (which we didn't!) the second the waitress saw us she said "you guys don't have to bother getting your ID's out, I know you aren't drinking."

I ran out of eyeliner AND mascara the day before. :(
The show was AMAZING!!!!! We recognized some of the people from Comedy Central and other shows!

F Train back to Midtown. I don't know what is going on in this picture.

Is that you?

So I LOVE Art History! Like, a lot. I really do soak up all of the information I learn in class, and most of the time the class is pretty serious.

Sometimes, however, Catherine and my favorite thing to do is talk about who in modern day resembles the portraits being shown to us.

For instance, Caracalla (who totally killed his brother to avoid having a threat to the throne, and as Catherine says, sure looks like he could "kill a fool") looks a lot like Victor Krum from Harry Potter and Gerard Butler.

This is probably my favorite resemblance though! Oh, disclaimer, I mean no offense to anyone with this, promise.

Take a look at this mosaic entitled "Christ as Good Shepherd" which is the entrance wall mosaic of the Mausoleum of Gall Placidia in Ravenna Italy.

Beautiful right? Now look at the sheep.

Look really hard.

Who does this remind you of??????

BUCKBEACK!!!!!!! The Hippogriff!!!!!!!!! Yes? No?

I officially have to add a Harry Potter tag now, since it has been mentioned twice in this one post. lol.

AUNT HILDA!!!!!!!!!

YOU GUYS! AUNT HILDA FROM SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH CAME TO ADELPHI!!!!

Of course, because we both LOVE stand up comedy and cheesy 90's sitcoms, Nicole and I paid $10 to see Caroline Rhea perform.

Her boyfriend, who has some crazy greek name, opened for her, and he was pretty funny himself. Caroline Rhea, however, was hilarious!!!!!!! Our throats hurt from all the laughing.

This is a picture I snagged (I totally forgot to bring my telephoto lens) of her taking pictures of some audience members (yes, she made him pretend to be pregnant, no, I don't know why). It started because so many flashes were going off taking pictures of her, she finally told one girl to just come on the stage and take a picture with her. Then another kid had to take the picture, then she took a picture of them. It was crazy!

Despite claiming she really needed to get home to her baby, Ava, and going way over on time during her act, she took pictures with everyone afterward!

Maddie, Met, MidTown, Magnolia, Metamorphosis

So several Sunday's ago (2? 3? I can't remember) was another NYC filled day!!

We had a show to go to around 3:00, but my friend Maddie and I decided not to waste a perfect opportunity to visit the Met in order to pick the pieces we would have to write our final papers in Art History on.

I chose this baby!

This was our favorite piece from the whole day.

More silly photos.

Then we made our way to Mid Town, using public transit this time, thank gosh, in order to see our show. First we stopped at Magnolia so Maddie could bring home some cupcakes to her family, and I just couldn't say no to buying just one! It was yummy!

I met Alicia and Nicole at the City Center, where the show was playing.

The show we saw was called Metamorphosis. We bought the tickets for $10 through the Honors College, so we didn't really know what to expect. It turned out to be a beautiful, contemporary ballet show with absolutely wonderful music. It was mostly piano, which I love. When I went into the lobby after the show I was disappointed to see that they weren't selling a CD of the music!!

We ate a little diner for dinner and when walking back to Penn Nicole and Alicia decided to be very touristy by making me take this picture.

They had a backpack and pillow case with "TIPS!" sprawled across them.

Then on the train ride home Nicole and Alicia were making fun of my love of Michael Buble, and singing really old songs like "My Band", which I had never even heard of.

It was a great day.

Thank You Danielle!!!!!

Hehehehe, Danielle sent me this picture the other day. Apparently she and her classmates had to give presentations in their Public Speaking class on how to do something.

Which reminds me, when I was in the third grade my mom had to do the same assignment for her public speaking class. She chose "how to bathe a baby". The problem: few baby dolls are made completely out of something water resistant. She had to buy a pretty expensive doll, which you actually filled with water to make her feel like a real baby, in order to complete the assignment. Her plan was to use it gently and return it. When she was a work the day before the presentation however, I totally fell in love with this baby doll (I was the little girl always playing "house", or as Kelly and I called it "have kids", which sounds weird now, but really only meant that we played that we had imaginary older children, and then baby dolls as our babies). So my mother let me keep her, I think she is probably still up in my closet.

Anyway...

Danielle did how to make puppets (a pastime we quite enjoyed sophomore year), and another girl did how to pipe frosting. She gave everyone a little bag of frosting. Apparently Danielle later went a bit crazy and piped the reaming frosting (not wanting to waste it of course!) onto everything edible within her vicinity. This was one of the things she frosted.

She also made me the little icon that now appears in the address bar when you visit this site (in addition to the graphic header earlier).

So THANK YOU DANIELLE!!!!!

Falling Behind

OMG I'm SO behind on blog posts and I'm sorry!!!!! Crazy amounts of school work, clubs, events, work, and just basic life stuff has me really busy! I'm just going to consecutively post all the stuff that I have pictures for or deserve their own blog post throughout the weekend, and then I'll just do one bit bullet point post for all the awesome little random stuff that has happened as well!

A REAL Fall!!!!

I have always loved autumn and it has long been my favorite season. I even want an autumn, copper orange, wedding.

Let me tell you though, a California fall and a New York one are two completely different things.

I have found a new love for this amazingly beautiful season! These pictures are only from my school, the town of Garden City itself is even more beautiful.

I constantly want to jump in all of the piles of leaves around campus.
